If you have lived in Bourbonnais for more than a season, you already know the calendar fills up between Memorial Day and Labor Day. What you might not have noticed is that most of it repeats on the same day of the week, in the same two places, with sponsors and vendors booked out through September.
That is the quiet trick of a Bourbonnais summer. You do not really need a calendar. You need a pattern.
The Grove and Perry Farm are doing almost all of it
Look at any given week in July or August and the free, walk-up programming clusters at two addresses: The Grove at 700 Main Street NW, run by the Village, and Perry Farm Park, run by the Bourbonnais Township Park District. Between them they cover lunch, dinner, kids, adults, music, art, and the option to do nothing at all.

Nothing on that grid asks for a reservation, a ticket, or a babysitter. That is the point. Lunchtime Bites & Beats runs every Wednesday from June through September at The Grove, with two rotating food trucks and live local music in the heart of Bourbonnais. Food Truck Fridays, hosted by the Bourbonnais Township Park District, feature a rotating lineup of food trucks at Perry Farm Park each Friday from 11am to 2pm during the summer months.
The Art in the Park sessions are worth flagging separately if you have small kids. The series runs the 1st and 3rd Tuesday from June through August as a collaboration between the Village of Bourbonnais, Little Me Studio and the Bourbonnais Public Library District. A recent example on the Bradley/Kankakee County calendar had it slated for the Robert Gosselin Pavilion for ages 5 to 10.

The most useful thing a neighborhood post can do is name names. Here is what a mid-July week looked like in the current 2026 lineup, pulled from the WIVR River Country community calendar.
Wednesday, July 15, 11 a.m.–1 p.m., The Grove: Drew's Dogs and MiaBella's Wood Fired Pizza on site, with Eddie Anderson providing the entertainment.
Friday, July 17, 11 a.m.–2 p.m., Perry Farm Park: Food Truck Fridays with Cousins Maine Lobster, a place to grab an outdoor lunch as you head into the weekend.
That is a lobster roll from a nationally franchised truck on a Friday, and a wood-fired pizza slice from a regional operator on a Wednesday, both within a five-minute drive of most of the village. Neither one asked you to plan ahead.
If Drew's Dogs and Cousins Maine Lobster do not repeat next week, that is fine. The park district posts the vendor roster at btpd.org. The schedule changes; the Friday time slot does not.
The Wednesday concert lineup, in one place
The Summer Concert Series is the standing evening event at Perry Farm Park. This year's July calendar, per the Township Park District:

The Summer Concert Series returns to Perry Farm Park in 2026 with Peoples Bank of Kankakee County as the sponsor. The Bradley/Kankakee events calendar has the start time at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday evenings. Bring a chair. The grass around the gazebo fills in fast once school lets out.
There is a small quirk worth noting. Wednesday is doing double duty. Lunchtime Bites & Beats runs midday at The Grove; the concert runs evenings at Perry Farm. Different venue, different park district, same day of the week. If you wanted to build a whole family Wednesday around music without leaving Bourbonnais, that is already the schedule.
Sundays are for doing nothing on purpose
The programming most likely to get missed is also the one most designed for people who already live here. Every Sunday from June through September, The Grove hosts an electronics-free afternoon on The Green with lawn games. No band. No food trucks. Just cornhole and giant Jenga and whoever else showed up.
This is the current-resident event. Nobody drives forty minutes for lawn games. But if you live off Main Street or up near Olivet, it is a twenty-minute walk to a place your kids can put the tablet down without you having to be the one who took it away.
The Village also uses The Grove for a newer series called Board & Brew. It's a community conversation series that gives residents the chance to connect with Village officials in a relaxed, informal setting on Festival Street at The Grove. Not everyone's idea of a summer evening, but if you have opinions about the road out front or the next capital project, that is the room.
Movie nights and the once-a-year weekend

Outdoor movies at The Grove are family-friendly and commercially licensed for free public showing. The film nights are held at 700 Main Street NW; bring lawn chairs and blankets. Dates rotate through the summer, so this is one where the Village events page is worth the bookmark.
The Bourbonnais Friendship Festival is the once-a-year exception to the "predictable weekly rhythm" thesis of this whole post. It ran June 24 through 28, 2026, at Bourbonnais Village Hall and Municipal Grounds, with a Grand Parade, Children's Parade, carnival, sports, beer garden, Battle of the Bands, and the Miss Friendship pageant. If you moved here after June this year, put it on the 2027 calendar now. It is the one event in Bourbonnais where you should absolutely plan ahead.
Practical stuff nobody tells the newcomer
A few things that only make sense once you have gone a few times.
The Grove sits at Main Street NW. If you are coming from the east side of the village or Bradley, the surface streets are almost always faster than looping through the retail corridor on Route 50 during the dinner hour. On concert Wednesdays at Perry Farm, the closer lots off Kennedy Drive fill first; the trail entrances give you a shorter walk than the main lot if you know where to park.
Food trucks are cash-friendly and card-friendly, but the line at 11 a.m. is meaningfully shorter than the line at 12:15. If you work anywhere within ten minutes and can flex your lunch break, the early window is the move.
And for parents: the Recreation Station indoor museum, at BTPD's flagship site, opens early on Tuesday mornings for toddlers before the older-kid programs start. That is not a summer-only thing, but it pairs well with the Tuesday Art in the Park schedule if you are stringing a morning together.
The takeaway for people who already live here
There is a version of Bourbonnais where summer is a scramble to check event pages every Sunday night. There is another version where you know Wednesday is a food truck at lunch and a band at seven, Friday is a truck at Perry Farm, and Sunday is lawn games if you feel like walking over. The second version is available to anyone with a chair and a willingness to show up.
That predictability is one of the underrated features of living in a village this size. The venues are small enough that the same faces show up. The organizers, the Village of Bourbonnais, the Township Park District, Peoples Bank of Kankakee County underwriting the concerts, are the same names year over year. It is a summer built by people who expect to see you again next week.
